About the picture
This is a monument of a dikeworker at the Afsluitdijk in the north of Nederland. The Afsluitdijk is a fundamental part of the larger Zuiderzee Works, damming off the Zuiderzee, a salt water inlet of the North Sea, and turning it into the fresh water lake of the IJsselmeer. The dike is 32 km long and connects the province of Noord-Holland with the province of Friesland.
I took the picture early in the morning during a short camper trip in the Northern provinces of Nederland, Friesland and Groningen.
