City walks Cádiz

From March 19 – March 22 we were in Cádiz. The weather was very bad with a lot of rain, but in between the showers it was beautiful photo weather with very nice skies.

Although we have never been to Cuba, we imagin Cádiz has the atmosphere of Havana. The first day we took a walk along the sea, along the Playa de la Caseta, with a view of the Castillo Sanra Catelina. Then along the Atlantic coast, on the Campo del Sur.  The light was fantastic and the sea was very rough, creating a special atmosphere due to the salty seawater in the air. Then we walked into the Centro Historico and near the Catedral we strolled through the narrow streets. and stayed in the Plaza de la Catedral and the Plaza San Juan de Dioz. The Mercado Central, one of the oldest markets in Spain (1836), was also well worth a visit.

The next day we took another long walk through the narrow streets and went to the Plaza de Mina and Plaza de España. Plaza de España is the largest square in Cadiz and here is an imposing monument in honor of Cortes.

We have fallen in love with Cádiz and we will definitely return there. The camper spot along the water, next to Castillo Santa Catelina, certainly contributed to this.

Below is a limited selection of the photos we took in Cádiz. More photo’s  of Cadiz can be found on our SmugMug site in the series Andalucía – Provincia de Cádiz (please click).
