City walks Roma

In December 2013 we made a city trip to Rome.  What we find a nice aspect of traveling is to stroll around a city at our leisure, observe and try to find beauty in small things, but also in animals and people and capture this in our photos. Rome is a city where you want to come back to and where you will discover new things over and over again

From this first exploration in Rome, these were the highlights, realizing that we still have a lot to discover:

• The view of Rome from Janiculum Hill
• Trastevere (‘across the Tiber’), the real Rome. A neighborhood with an authentic Roman atmosphere.
• Vatican City with the Basilica of St. Peter and the Piazza San Pietro
• The Colosseum. Bread and Games. A unique theatre from antiquity. The ruin to beat all ruins. It is perhaps Rome’s greatest marvel, breathtaking and beautifully built – however it was made for the pure delight in watching the cruellest torture and slaughter of men and animals.
• The Roman Forum, once the political center of the Roman Empire
• The Santa Maria in Cosmedin, a beautiful little church with the much photographed La Bocca della Verita (the mouth of truth). A very old polygraph.
• Rome squares: Piazza Navona, Campo de’ Fiori, Piazzo del Popolo
• The Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain
• The basilica of Santa Sabina, that we as many other people, consider the loveliest church of Rome.The beauty within Santa Sabina is that of a pure, contemplative simplicity, so rare in Rome, that it takes a moment to adjust.
